Wine Blending Case and Kit

2025 WINE BLENDING COMPETITION

This year’s challenge:

This year’s challenge is to conceptualise a Classic Cape Bordeaux style blend.

Blenders will receive 4 samples

(1 x Cabernet Franc, 1 x Cabernet Sauvignon, 1 x Merlot, 1 x Petit Verdot)

and all 4 components must be used in the final blend.

A maximum of 60 % of each Cultivar may be used and a minimum of 5% of each component must be included in the blend.

How to Enter?

Step 1: Select your Blending Team and Choose a Name

– Each team MUST consist of 4 people to enter

 

Step 2: Buy your Blending Case and Kit from The Taste Room

– Purchase your Blending Case and Kit for R1 200per team  (R300pp) to enter.

Entries open on 1 April 2025 and will close on 30 April 2025.

Step 3: Have fun whilst you blend

– Join one of the blending evenings at The Taste Room during June & July 2025 and try your hand at the art of wine blending and perfect your recipe for a champion wine. Snacks will be provided on the night in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Dates to be confirmed.

– Your final recipe / blend will be blind tasted on the night by an independent judge and scored to stand a chance to be crowned as The Taste Room Master Wine Blending Team.

 

Step 4: Submit your recipe… 1 Blend… 2 Competitions!

Apart from the Taste Room’s competition your recipe will also be submitted and made up in the Blaauwklippen Cellar according to your team’s formula and tasted blind by the judging panel which consists of some of the nation’s most astute wine personalities, as well as Blaauwklippen winemaker.

 

The Taste Room 2025 Blending Competition:

The top three scores of all entries from The Taste Room’s Wine Blending evenings will determine the finalists and be invited back for the prize giving ceremony.

1^st Prize – R1 200 cash & case of 6 bottles of wine, valued at R1 200

2^nd Prize – R600 cash & case of wine valued at R 900

3^rd  Prize – Case of Wine valued at R 600

 

Blaauwklippen 2025 Blending Competition

The top four national scores of all entries will determine the semi-finalists. The four semi-finalists will then be invited to Blaauwklippen, where the winner will be announced at an award ceremony attended by selected guests and media.

In addition to the trophy, the winner also earns recognition on the label of a limited-edition magnum release of their blend bottled and sold by Blaauwklippen.
